Uganda Paper Outs More Than 50---From the Advocate

Ugandan Paper Outs More Than 50 "Top Homos"

By Michelle Garcia
Ugandan Paper Outs More Than 50

A newspaper in Uganda, a country with hostile views against homosexuality, listed dozens of gay individuals, including their names, occupations, physical descriptions, HIV status, and partners. The report, published in The Red Pepper on Sunday, names ordinary people like bartenders and bankers.

"This is a killer dossier," the report reads. "A heat-pounding and sensational masterpiece that largely exposes Uganda's shameless men and unabashed women that have deliberately exported the western evils to our dear and sacred society. They have been influential in spreading the gay and lesbian vices in schools to kill the morals of our lovely kids!!"

The writer then goes on to describe the list as so "nervebreaking" that those with hypertension may not want to read it, according to a scanned page of the article acquired by BoxTurtleBulletin.com.

"Short and big with dreadlocks, he is a flamboyant lad and one of the most talented guys in the music industry," one description reads.

"He travels a lot, especially to the U.S. on business trips. This homo star resides in Ntinda," reads another description.

The list ends with a teaser to next week's list of "more shocking things you didn't know about Homos."

Ugandan police have been given greater authority in investigating gays and punishing them in recent months. Ethics and integrity minister James Buturo expressed concern in October 2008 that the prevalence of homosexuality would diminish the population. "Who is going to occupy Uganda 20 years from now if we all become homosexuals? We know that homosexuals don't produce."

---------------
This breaks my heart into tiny little pieces. president obama speak out to the government of uganda and let them know that this is against human right, United Nations speak out for these people who have been thrown to the gutter by this paper and this government that allows hatred in Uganda.

Miss California hates gays

Miss California stated that she believes that marriage is between a man and a women. As much as perez hilton bugs me i am pleased he asked her about her gay marriage views. being the representative from california, where prop 8 passed, she should not be saying she is against lgbt weddings. she rightfully lost the title of miss usa. i am very happy she lost due to her bigotry.
miss usa needs to represent all americans.
so miss california...suck it!

it sickens me that people are clapping to this!!!
why are people clapping for hatred and bigotry!

the life of harvey milk

there is an incredible documentary from 1985 called the life of harvey milk.
this film won the best documentary oscar in 1985.
what an awesome film. it is a film that shows all the behind the scenes political crap harvey milk had to deal with. the film from this year that stars sean penn is indeed a master piece but this documentary truly shows who milk was.
where is our gay hero today? who do we have standing up now?
we need a speaker to step forward and take the place of harvey milk.
lets stand up and speak out like harvey...do not let his life be in vein.

Rupert Everett Trashes Gay Fatherhood

FROM THE ADVOCATE
By Julie Bolcer

Actor Rupert Everett trashed the idea of gay men wanting to father their own children, charging that surrogacy is the outgrowth of a “tiresome” gay rights movement populated by “awful middle-class queens.”

"I think this surrogacy thing is crap,” Everett, 49, told the Daily Beast web site. “It is utterly hideous. I think it's egocentric and vain.”

The openly gay star of films including My Best Friend’s Wedding and Shrek the Third extended his attack to lesbians.

“I mean, if you are meant to have babies then great,” he said. “But this whole idea of two gay guys filling a cocktail shaker with their sperm and impregnating some grim lesbian and then it gets cut out is just really weird.”

Everett, who said he would adopt or foster if he wanted to parent, positioned his harsh comments as a defense against the mainstreaming of gay culture.

”It's all Abercrombie & Fitch and strollers,” scoffed the outlaw Everett, who reportedly earned £1m alone from a publishers' advance for his memoirs in 2005.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok rupert...i read your memoir and it was full of arrogance, trash, and bitchiness!
you do not need to be speaking on this topic and i personally do not want you as an advocate for gay rights if this is what you are going to say about gay fatherhood.
if 2 people want to have a child and the only way they have to make a biological baby is to go through insemination then so be it! it is their choice and their decision on how they want to live their lives as parents.
butt out of it rupert...please

Iowa Legalizes Gay Marriage!

The Iowa Supreme Court legalized gay marriage today!
This is a huge deal since this state is sooo conservative!
AHH lets all go to Iowa ;)

from CNN
(CNN) -- The Iowa Supreme Court unanimously rejected a state law Friday that banned same-sex marriage, and opponents wasted little time in pushing for a state constitutional amendment that could send the issue to voters.

Larry Hoch, left, and David Twombley, one of six couples that filed suit, celebrate Friday at a news conference.

But nothing could dampen the spirits of the six same-sex couples who shouted and clapped at a news conference held by Lambda Legal after hearing the court's opinion. Lambda Legal bills itself as the nation's oldest and largest legal group working for the civil rights of gays.

Two by two, the excited couples -- some with children -- spoke at the briefing.

"Good morning, my name is Kate Varnum, and I'd like to introduce you to my fiance, Trish Varnum. I never thought I'd be able to say that."

Dawn BarbouRoske told the group, "We're proud that our kids will be able to grow up knowing their family is respected."

Her daughter added: "Hi, I'm McKinley, and I'm really, really happy. I feel that my family has always had this right, and today it is true. No longer shall we be just people who aren't allowed to be married. We are able to get married."

Lambda Legal filed the lawsuit against Polk County's former recorder on behalf of the six same-sex couples.

"This is a great day for civil rights in Iowa," said former Iowa Solicitor-General Dennis Johnson, a co-counsel with Lambda Legal. "Go get married. Live happily ever."

The court's decision becomes effective in 21 days, and county recorders then will be required to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Lambda senior staff attorney Camilla Taylor said at the news conference.

"You do not have to be an Iowan to seek a license here," she said, and Iowa should recognize same-sex marriages from other states.

Iowa will become the third state in the nation to allow same-sex marriage, after Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Not everyone was pleased.

"It's, quite frankly, a disaster," said Brian English, a spokesman for the Iowa Family Policy Center, a nonprofit research and educational organization committed to strengthening the family.

"Obviously, we're extremely disappointed," he said. "We're saddened. Perhaps a little bit surprised in the unanimous decision that the court handed down."

English, who said opponents of gay marriage prayed outside the courthouse Friday as they awaited the court's decision, already has begun lobbying the legislature for an Iowa Marriage Amendment.

"It (the proposed amendment) will be very brief. It will reaffirm in the state constitution that marriage is the union of one man and one woman," he said. "We're beginning the next step in the process."

A spokesman for One Iowa, which supports gay and lesbian equality, said the earliest the issue could get on a ballot would be 2012.

Friday's decision upheld a 2007 ruling by a lower court that Iowa's 1998 law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples went against the state's constitution.

The state's highest court determined that "the Iowa statute limiting civil marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution," court spokesman Steve Davis said in a written statement .Read PDF of court ruling

"The decision strikes the language from Iowa Code section 595.2 limiting civil marriage to a man and a woman. It further directs that the remaining statutory language be interpreted and applied in a manner allowing gay and lesbian people full access to the institution of civil marriage," the statement on the court's Web site says.

The Iowa Supreme Court said it has the responsibility to determine whether a law enacted by the legislative branch and enforced by the executive branch violates the Iowa Constitution.

"The court reaffirmed that a statute inconsistent with the Iowa Constitution must be declared void, even though it may be supported by strong and deep-seated traditional beliefs and popular opinion," the court said.

Polk County District Judge Robert Hanson earlier determined that the law violated the state constitution's guarantee of equal protection and hurt gay and lesbian couples "in numerous tangible and intangible" ways.

"Civil marriage in Iowa is the only gateway to an extensive legal structure that protects a married couple's relationship and family in and outside the state," Hanson ruled in Des Moines. "Iowa reserves an unparalleled array of rights, obligations and benefits to married couples and their families, privileging married couples as a financial and legal unit and stigmatizing same-sex couples."

The case was joined on appeal by several state lawmakers who opposed Hanson's ruling, calling it "a mockery of the judicial system."

They argued that the ruling stepped on the state legislature's authority by using the courts "to effectuate fundamental changes in public policies regarding marriage."

At the news conference, Jason Morgan, who was with his partner, Chuck Swaggerty, said they had been together nearly 12 years.

"We've been together in sickness and health, through the death of his mother, through the adoption of our children, through four long years of this legal battle," Morgan said, choking up. "And if being together through all of that isn't love and commitment or isn't family or isn't marriage, then I don't know what is."

Night of a Thousand Gowns aka gay tranny christmas

i went to the most fabulous event last night called 'Night of a Thousand Gowns'. 3 very amazing people and I ventured on over to the Marriot Marquee to attend this STAR studded event. how david,jo,sydney and i did not die from the shock of all the beauty in the room, or the famous people, or the drag glamor, or the pain of our high heels i have no idea!
this evening was GAY TRANNY CHRISTMAS!!! never in my life have i seen so many drag queens, and this was not your run of the mill lip synching gal with a package...this was a room full of true elegant ladies. ladies who give their hard earned dollars to good causes, ladies who design fabulous wardrobes for this event, ladies who gracefully walk to runway and show the world who they are.
the people who attend and sponsor, and make this event possible are true heroes to not only the gay community but to the world at large.
guest of the hotel kept looking on in shock as we mingled around but everyone held their head high. and proudly showed their craftsman ship for making such beautiful clothing and jewelry for the evening. if you get a chance look up the imperial court of ny and attend this event next year.
this years performers ranged from jackie hoffman to bebe zarah, nina floweres, rebecca glasscock, chris seiber, michelle williams of destinys child and many other very talent artist.
this night will truly go down in my mind as one of the most inspiring evenings i have ever had.
thank you imperial court of ny!

The Imperial Court of New York is a social, fundraising organization which has raised and donated back into the community millions of dollars to both social and health support organizations. In addition to their own fundraising, they often lend support and talent to other organizations in their ventures by performing, selling raffles, or just adding beauty and style. The mission of the Imperial Court is to raise funds for organizations including those supporting the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered community, HIV/AIDS services and youth enrichment programs. It was all started in 1984 by it's founder, Empress I Jose, the Widow Norton she declared herself, starting the long line of Emperors and Empresses since then.

Gay Dads On Birth Certificate

"Gay Dads Must Appear on Birth Certificate, Judge Rules
By Julie Bolcer
A federal judge has given Louisiana 15 days to add the names of two out-of-state fathers to the birth certificate of the Shreveport-born son they adopted.

U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey maintains that because the adoption by Oren Adar and Mickey Ray Smith became formal in New York, the adoption law of that state applies. Gay couples can list both names on their child’s birth certificate in New York.

Louisiana officials counter that under state law, two single people cannot adopt a child. The state is asking the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the ruling and to halt Judge Zainey’s order.

In addition, a bill prefiled in the legislature on Tuesday would make it illegal to create a birth certificate for anyone who did not meet Louisiana’s adoption laws. Only single people or married couples may adopt in the state."
-THE ADVOCATE

As someone who wants to be a parent someday I am so proud of this conservative state making this move.
Thank you Louisiana for showing the rest of our country that gay parenting is okay.
The state of Arkansas made a law this year outlawing such actions so it is a powerful stance for another southern to speak up and stand out for gay rights!!! woohoo

RIP Natasha Richardson

From broadwayworld.com

A spokesman for the family of Natasha Richardson says the actress, who had been critically injured in a ski accident, has died.

Alan Nierob of Rogers & Cowan said in a statement Wednesday night: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Richardson's family was with her at Lenox Hill Hospital, her relatives continued an emotional vigil by her bedside all day Wednesday before she died. Richardson was 45 years old.

Family members had gathered at the New York City hospital where the Tony-winning actress was taken with a serious head injury after falling on a Canadian resort ski slope.

Neeson had immediately left the Toronto set of his upcoming movie, "Chloe," to be by her side in Montreal, a publicist for the film said in a statement.

Nearly 24 hours after Richardson took a fall that a Tremblant spokesperson said looked harmless enough, media reports had varied widely concerning her condition with a few saying she was brain dead and one sadly claiming she passed away from her injuries.

Richardson was the wife of Liam Neeson, and the daughter of legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave. She had two sons with Neeson.

Richardson made her feature film debut as Mary Shelley in Ken Russell's "Gothic" (1986). Her performance caught the attention of director Paul Schrader, who cast her in the title role in "Patty Hearst" (1988), In 1995 she co-starred with Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson in "Nell" (1994) and, in 1998, in "The Parent Trap" (1998) with Dennis Quaid. Her recent films include "Blow Dry" (2001) released in 2001, and Ethan Hawke's "Chelsea Walls" (2001).

Natasha Richardson won the 1998 Tony Award for her celebrated performance in the Roundabout Theater Company revival of Cabaret and was also Tony-nominated for her starring role in the revival of Anna Christie. Other Broadway credits include Closer and A Streetcar Named Desire.

The New York Post's Michael Riedel reported in his 'On Broadway' column last month that the mother and daughter team of Vanessa Redgrave and Natasha Richardson had such a wonderful time performing in the Roundabout gala benefit reading of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" last month that they were hoping to team up again for a full-fledged revival on Broadway next year.

All of us here at BroadwayWorld.com are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss. Our thoughts are with the entire Neeson, Redgrave and Richardson families.

homelessness in nyc

so i have lived in nyc for almost 4 years now. obviously i have always seen homeless people here in the city but recently it seems you have to walk over them to get anywhere. this deeply saddens me as i think, isnt nyc and the usa the wealthiest place in the world? why then do i see homeless families on the street.
i will tell you why...we are in a mess of an economy and the government will not put the money where it needs to be.
our citizens are being thrown out on the streets due to lay offs and high rent and mortgage prices. we must fix this. stand up and help. these people need to be shown dignity and respect. help the homeless and combat injustice!
