New Logo, Anthony on cover of Backstage, & The Movement Theatre Company

Lots to talk about in this blog.
1st I have to thank my friend Imani Denson-Pittman for designing this fabulous new logo for MGC Productions & Broadway Speaks OUT...

2nd the new issue of backstage magazine is on sale now at any news stand and it has my partner and love anthony on the cover as well as fellow hair tribe members ato, maya, and theo! congratulations guys! there is an awesome interview with all of them inside as well!
3rd-my dear dear friend jo and david invited me to see a show tonight called Blacken the Bubble down at Dixon Place.
what an awesome show! very powerful and real. it really made me think about how our society stands in terms of racial acceptance. this play really spoke to me about how as a human race we need to stand up for each other and not judge based on color race religion or sexuality.
thank you to david and his theatre company the movement theatre company for producing this and also a very huge thank you to eric lockley for writing the script. great job cast and crew and Deena selenow on directing!

ANTHONY & I DOING KARMA

HAIR at our house...lots of fun

MGC Productions hosted a star studded fundraiser to kick off our fight for LGBT rights through entertainment. The cast of HAIR performed beautifully for this event. The evening was hosted by Hair tribe member Anthony Hollock and Martin Gould Cummings who head MGC Productions.

Night of a Thousand Gowns aka gay tranny christmas

i went to the most fabulous event last night called 'Night of a Thousand Gowns'. 3 very amazing people and I ventured on over to the Marriot Marquee to attend this STAR studded event. how david,jo,sydney and i did not die from the shock of all the beauty in the room, or the famous people, or the drag glamor, or the pain of our high heels i have no idea!
this evening was GAY TRANNY CHRISTMAS!!! never in my life have i seen so many drag queens, and this was not your run of the mill lip synching gal with a package...this was a room full of true elegant ladies. ladies who give their hard earned dollars to good causes, ladies who design fabulous wardrobes for this event, ladies who gracefully walk to runway and show the world who they are.
the people who attend and sponsor, and make this event possible are true heroes to not only the gay community but to the world at large.
guest of the hotel kept looking on in shock as we mingled around but everyone held their head high. and proudly showed their craftsman ship for making such beautiful clothing and jewelry for the evening. if you get a chance look up the imperial court of ny and attend this event next year.
this years performers ranged from jackie hoffman to bebe zarah, nina floweres, rebecca glasscock, chris seiber, michelle williams of destinys child and many other very talent artist.
this night will truly go down in my mind as one of the most inspiring evenings i have ever had.
thank you imperial court of ny!

The Imperial Court of New York is a social, fundraising organization which has raised and donated back into the community millions of dollars to both social and health support organizations. In addition to their own fundraising, they often lend support and talent to other organizations in their ventures by performing, selling raffles, or just adding beauty and style. The mission of the Imperial Court is to raise funds for organizations including those supporting the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered community, HIV/AIDS services and youth enrichment programs. It was all started in 1984 by it's founder, Empress I Jose, the Widow Norton she declared herself, starting the long line of Emperors and Empresses since then.

Gay Dads On Birth Certificate

"Gay Dads Must Appear on Birth Certificate, Judge Rules
By Julie Bolcer
A federal judge has given Louisiana 15 days to add the names of two out-of-state fathers to the birth certificate of the Shreveport-born son they adopted.

U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey maintains that because the adoption by Oren Adar and Mickey Ray Smith became formal in New York, the adoption law of that state applies. Gay couples can list both names on their child’s birth certificate in New York.

Louisiana officials counter that under state law, two single people cannot adopt a child. The state is asking the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the ruling and to halt Judge Zainey’s order.

In addition, a bill prefiled in the legislature on Tuesday would make it illegal to create a birth certificate for anyone who did not meet Louisiana’s adoption laws. Only single people or married couples may adopt in the state."
-THE ADVOCATE

As someone who wants to be a parent someday I am so proud of this conservative state making this move.
Thank you Louisiana for showing the rest of our country that gay parenting is okay.
The state of Arkansas made a law this year outlawing such actions so it is a powerful stance for another southern to speak up and stand out for gay rights!!! woohoo

Ryan J Davis and Jeffery Self are both good friends of mine and I am so happy that they run this pageant. It is not only a great way to showcase broadway but it helps an amazing organization.
The Ali Forney Center helps the homeless youth within the LGBT community. During these hard economic times it is very important to support causes like this.
Thank you ryan and jeffery!!!

RIP Natasha Richardson

From broadwayworld.com

A spokesman for the family of Natasha Richardson says the actress, who had been critically injured in a ski accident, has died.

Alan Nierob of Rogers & Cowan said in a statement Wednesday night: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Richardson's family was with her at Lenox Hill Hospital, her relatives continued an emotional vigil by her bedside all day Wednesday before she died. Richardson was 45 years old.

Family members had gathered at the New York City hospital where the Tony-winning actress was taken with a serious head injury after falling on a Canadian resort ski slope.

Neeson had immediately left the Toronto set of his upcoming movie, "Chloe," to be by her side in Montreal, a publicist for the film said in a statement.

Nearly 24 hours after Richardson took a fall that a Tremblant spokesperson said looked harmless enough, media reports had varied widely concerning her condition with a few saying she was brain dead and one sadly claiming she passed away from her injuries.

Richardson was the wife of Liam Neeson, and the daughter of legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave. She had two sons with Neeson.

Richardson made her feature film debut as Mary Shelley in Ken Russell's "Gothic" (1986). Her performance caught the attention of director Paul Schrader, who cast her in the title role in "Patty Hearst" (1988), In 1995 she co-starred with Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson in "Nell" (1994) and, in 1998, in "The Parent Trap" (1998) with Dennis Quaid. Her recent films include "Blow Dry" (2001) released in 2001, and Ethan Hawke's "Chelsea Walls" (2001).

Natasha Richardson won the 1998 Tony Award for her celebrated performance in the Roundabout Theater Company revival of Cabaret and was also Tony-nominated for her starring role in the revival of Anna Christie. Other Broadway credits include Closer and A Streetcar Named Desire.

The New York Post's Michael Riedel reported in his 'On Broadway' column last month that the mother and daughter team of Vanessa Redgrave and Natasha Richardson had such a wonderful time performing in the Roundabout gala benefit reading of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" last month that they were hoping to team up again for a full-fledged revival on Broadway next year.

All of us here at BroadwayWorld.com are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss. Our thoughts are with the entire Neeson, Redgrave and Richardson families.

homelessness in nyc

so i have lived in nyc for almost 4 years now. obviously i have always seen homeless people here in the city but recently it seems you have to walk over them to get anywhere. this deeply saddens me as i think, isnt nyc and the usa the wealthiest place in the world? why then do i see homeless families on the street.
i will tell you why...we are in a mess of an economy and the government will not put the money where it needs to be.
our citizens are being thrown out on the streets due to lay offs and high rent and mortgage prices. we must fix this. stand up and help. these people need to be shown dignity and respect. help the homeless and combat injustice!
